What is a Republican Committee Person? |
The Republican committee person is an elected official of the Republican Party. In fact, we are the party official closest to the voter. Through us, the party communicates with the voter and the voter can communicate with the party, including local, county, state, and federal elected officials of the Republican Party. Under New York State Election Law, committee people are elected to two-year terms by circulating petitions for office.
The responsibilities of committee people include:
- Registering people in the Republican Party
- Representing the people of your district. That is, understanding the thoughts, problems, and concerns of your constituents and communicating them to those that can help.
- Becoming active and knowledgeable about community affairs.
- Selecting the best possible candidates to run on the Republican ticket, nominate them, and circulate petitions for those candidates.
- Supporting candidates through fundraising and active participation in their campaign and election.
To elect people that reflect your concerns, ideals, and convictions there is no better area to serve than as an elected committee person. Candidates that wish to run on the Republican ticket will appear before the local committees for their endorsement. Therefore, as a committee person, your vote will not be one of thousands; your vote will be one of hundreds or even dozens. To really make a difference you will find the office of a Republican committee person is an office of strength, integrity, and action. It is through the committee that the candidates are chosen and the changes are made. I cannot think of a better way to serve the public and the Republican Party than by serving as a Republican Committee person.
